Calligramme Artist Statement

Artist Statement

For this project, I created a calligramme using two letters: one written to my 10-year-old self and another to my 30-year-old self. Both letters focus on growth, faith, values, hard times, support, and lessons learned. Based on what I wrote, I created a drawing that represents the ideas in both letters. I combined a heart to show my feelings and values, wings to represent growth and change, and a sun to represent my positive energy and happy attitude.

I then looked for inspiration on Pinterest to find the shapes I wanted and created the image using Canva. Once I had the final image, I uploaded it to Illustrator as a PNG file and began outlining the shapes using the pen tool. I wanted to keep the design simple, so I used the font League Spartan. To add a creative touch, I filled the heart with my name using the font Coolvetica.

This project helped me connect with my younger and older selves while also improving my Illustrator skills. I practiced using the pen tool and learned how to use text to trace outlines, fill shapes, and design elements.
